Focus : The MRI focuses on breeding marine life that is fast disappearing from local waters and has high value for both the local fishing communities and the local and international market.

“Marine Life” (3 basic types): Grouper (6 varieties) Malabar, Estuary, Coral Trout, Bar-Cheeked, Panther, Giant Grouper; Spiny Lobster ( 3 varieties) Green, Sand, Painted Lobsters; Pearl Oysters (3 varieties) Akoya, Black Winged, Silver Lipped Oysters.

Objectives of the MRI:
1. To revive the local marine environment through breeding and releasing disappearing marine life back into the waters off Koh Yaow.

2. To enable local fishing communities to raise value added marine products in floating cages and to research the abundance of local indigenous knowledge on this vocation.

3. To provide profits that will cover the SDRF budget and also enable the development projects of the foundation to be implemented.

4. To train local practitioners as well as interested organizations and individuals in the art of breeding and raising disappearing local marine life.
